I have watched this female blackbird and her mate build their nest every spring for a number of years now. We have grown so accustomed to sharing our space, that it is not often that either pays attention to me as they knows that I and my camera are no threat.
Today, however, was one of those magical moments when eye contact was made. With her mouth full of leaves and grass, the female had to stop and pause for a moment so she could see where she was going and whom it was that she flew toward.
She flew right by, only inches above my head, when she realised it was only me.
